The Nature of Things

Interviewed for an episode of the Canadian The Nature of Things focused on the science of heartbreak. I sliced a vole brain while describing where the nucleus accumbens is and the importance of this brain region for social bonding and loss. (2023)

SMTB in Estonia

SMTB provides high school students of Russian descent with the opportunity to participate, intellectually and through work in the laboratory, in real scientific experiments. Over the course of the three week immersive program students attend lectures, learn new scientific techniques, and explore current ideas in areas of molecular and theoretical biology. In 2022, I co-designed and co-instructed a course on designing and cloning gRNAs for future CRISPRi experiments in voles. I also mentored a student on the “hidden curriculum” of academic research and provided insights into research in the US.  (2022)

Nerd Nite Boulder Chapter

Graduate students (Ph.D. candidates or master’s students) and post-doctoral fellows across STEM disciplines at CU Boulder and beyond present their work to the public in a casual environment. (2018 – 2020)

BRAIN Awareness Week

BRAIN Awareness Week is a global effort supported by the Dana Foundation to bring scientific concepts about neuroscience to the public. I created an interactive demonstration of how pair bonding in prairie voles alters neuropeptide receptor expression in the nucleus accumbens. (2018)
